The northwest has long been fertile ground for writers, visual artists, and musicians. Today, we can add composers to the list of artists to receive international recognition for their work. Alaska native John Luther Adams has just been awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for music for Become Ocean.

“A haunting orchestral work that suggests a relentless tidal surge, evoking thoughts of melting polar ice and rising sea levels.”

– Taiga Press/Theodore Front Musical Literature

Become Ocean was commissioned by the Seattle Symphony and and premiered on June 20, 2013 at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. As part of the premier of this beautiful new work we created a short film featuring Seattle Symphony artistic director Ludovic Morlot and some of the audience lucky enough to get tickets to the premier. Watch our film about Become Ocean.
